One of the most essential barista tools, the portafilter is involved in every step of the espresso-making process. It contains the tamped coffee grounds, collects the water from the group head, and dispenses the espresso. Because it is in constant contact with the ground coffee itself, thoroughly cleaning it is necessary for a clean, well-extracted espresso.
Step 1 — Create a cleaning solution by filling vessel with hot water and adding 6 grams of Cafiza per 1 liter of water.
Step 2 — Submerge the metal parts of the portafilter, screen and drip tray in the water — do not submerge any plastic parts.
Step 3 — Allow the parts to soak in the cleaning solution for up to 30 minutes.
Step 4 — Remove all parts and discard cleaning solution.
Step 5 — If needed, scrub the portafilter — without a basket inserted in it — using Scrubz to further loosen and remove any residue.
